In JavaScript, there's a package for everything... and often for nothing.

A tiny package can be present throughout a JavaScript dependency tree without ever appearing in an application's direct dependencies. This talk uses is-string to reveal how transitive packages contribute to node_modules and to the amount of data projects install.

The presentation demonstrates tools for inspecting dependency trees and package size, then introduces e18e and its work on dependency cleanup, performance improvements, package replacements, and ecosystem collaboration.
